A Simple 3 Day Corfu Itinerary
For a first visit with a hire car, one sensible way to split the island so you are not backtracking across it every day.
Day 1: Corfu Town and Kanoni
Start in Corfu Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on foot: the Old Fortress, the Liston arcade and the narrow lanes of Campiello. In the afternoon head south a few kilometres to Kanoni for the view over Vlacherna Monastery and Pontikonisi (Mouse Island). Stay in town for dinner, it is walkable and does not need a car once you are parked.

Drive over to Paleokastritsa for the monastery and the sea caves boat trip, then loop up to Angelokastro for the view from the clifftop Byzantine fortress before it gets hot. Finish the day at Lakones or Doukades, hill villages with tavernas that look straight back down over the bay.

Work up the east coast through Dassia and Ipsos, both easy bases for renting a car or scooter (see Runner Rentals, Ipsos in Getting Around), then continue to Kalami and Kassiopi for a quieter, more upmarket stretch of coastline before turning back for the airport or ferry.
